This
B-17G Represents All Who Served Valiantly.
Historically, Americans have come together
for the common good when confronted with
adversity. America was strong in the air
and on the home front during WWII. Out of
this ordeal came countless acts of
selflessness and heroism. Collecting,
cataloging and exhibiting these inspiring
stories is a vital part of the mission for
the Wings of Freedom Project.
The WWII population is vanishing at an
alarming rate. Preservation of these
historical personal stories is imperative
for the education of future generations.
The Wings of Freedom Project (W.O.F.) is
building a lasting tribute to the men &
women of WWII. We will recognize all who
have served to preserve our Freedom. We
are collecting and preserving personal
stories, photos and memorabilia from the
families of the Pacific Northwest veterans
and others who played a role in WWII.
The “Wings of Freedom Showcase” museum
building is home to the restored “nose”
section of the plane and many other rare
artifacts. Yet, while this particular
B-17-“The Lacey Lady” carries a colorful
individual history tied to the Oregon
family whose vision is at the heart of the
project, The Wings of Freedom is not a
strict “aviation museum”. The main
emphasis of the Wings of Freedom Project,
by contrast, will not only be about
aircraft – but about the men and women who
flew, fought and served during this
significant period in history.
